Armed with a love of color, sculptural shapes and the natural world, felt artist Horst creates patterns and uses layers of wool fiber to create exciting one-of-a-kind fashions. Horst started out as an art educator at a public school and began experimenting with felting while working on his master's degree program in art. In the Horst Couture website, you can see more gowns, some of which are made with chicken bones or faux organic buds.

"With an eye for detail and a clever imagination, Barry University senior, Candice Kenmuir, took debris left behind from Hurricane Wilma and turned it into four pieces of unbelievable art, wearable art at that.

Armed with her camera, a few tools, and four volunteers to model her creations, Kenmuir - a photography major - spent several days collecting the debris that most South Floridians looked at as a painful reminder of the storm.

"My images were created, in part, from debris left behind following hurricane Wilma's tirade. They are intended to remind viewers not only of her destruction, but of the resilience of the people who were affected by the storm," Kenmuir said.

Leaves from an ancient tree that once stood outside Barry's photo lab were used to create "Amanda in Foliaged Evening Gown," while part of a wooden fence blown down by the storm was used to create the ballerina-like "Gemma in Splintered Fourth." Her two other pieces, "Felicia in Roof Tile Couture" and "Jackie in 60-Watt Wear," were created from damaged roof shingles and light bulbs, with the latter being a tribute to Florida Power and Light for the widespread power outage from the hurricane. "

"A range of tables and chairs transformed into clothing (slipcovers became dresses, chairs were folded into attache case and a round table became a skirt). The models serenely picked up the furniture, put them on and walked off.

"The project had nothing to do with furniture," he says. "It was all about the moment of trying to leave your home at a time of war. The living room was supposed to be like somebody's wardrobe. How you could hide your possessions and carry them with you? Partly it's from my background - I'm from Cyprus, which is a divided place - and partly because of Kosovo."

"Inspired by the 'shadows of the imagination', Braganza's futuristic world comprised mostly of a black palette with the odd hint of fuschia pink, grey and cream. Double-layered merino wool was panelled with PVC-like material, and crepe designed for draping.

Everything was structured from the shoulders to the hips, in cocoon-shaped dresses, jackets and skirts, helping to highlight Bragazna's inspiration - the human body. Notable features included open pockets, exposed zips and thick piping which wove around the body to reflect the body's anatomy.
